Frankfurt – successful module about M&APublished by Katharina Linhart on Thu, 03/15/2012 - 00:00
In March, our module about Mergers & Acquisitions was taking place in Frankfurt am Main. Chairman of this module was Peter Behrens, Professor for European and International Business Law at the University of Hamburg.
After his introduction into Mergers & Acquisitions on Monday morning, the new speakers Dr. Roland Hoffmann-Theinert and Christopher J. Wright (both from GÖRG Attorneys at Law, Berlin) spoke about Distressed Assets. In the evening our students were invited by Daniel Marschollek, E.M.B.L.-HSG Alumnus, to a reception at his company Salans LL.P., where we were offered very special and tasty molecular cuisine.
The next day, our students learned more about Due Diligence and M&A contracts by Matthias Götz from SKW Schwarz Attorneys at Law and Dr. Frank J. Matzen from Ernst & Young LLP, London. There, our students also had to pass their first graded group work for this week.
Wednesday`s lecture dealt with M & A Management and Acquisition Financing. Dr. Maximilian Dietzsch – Doertenbach and Robin Majer (both Doertenbach & Co. GmbH) tested our students’ knowledge in a group work in the afternoon.
Thanks to Dr. Thomas Winzer, Gleiss Lutz, the Thursday morning lecture considered the important topic of restructuring of firms – labour law issues. In the afternoon Madeleine Syré and Dr. Dominic Paschke, both from PwC, taught our students in tax planning. In the evening we enjoyed a visit of the Deutsche Bank twin towers. There we heard everything about the special architecture of this huge building and got impressed by the modern art inside the building.
Friday morning lecture belonged to Professor Andreas Thier from the University of Zürich and his legal historical view on the context. Afterwards, Peter Nägele, Siemens, and Oliver Geffroy, Barclays Bank PLC, gave their fascinating lecture about Takeover, Stock Exchange and Transaction Law. They furthermore prepared our students for the last examination of this module.
We would like to warmly thank PricewaterhouseCoopers for hosting us at their German headquarters so generously during the week. We highly enjoyed the great service, the good food and the nice conference room.
